Is China Trying to Steal DNA from Americans?

60 Minutes Says YES, through BGI Group

BGI Group is the world’s biggest biotech company and is accused to be expanding its COVID testing labs in order to steal DNA specimens from Americans, according to 60 Minutes. BGI is a Chinese company.

In an odd parallel, the founder of biotech company Fulgent Genetics is billionaire Ming Hsieh, who was born in China but is now a naturalized American citizen. The Board of Directors for Fulgent Genetics is dominated by Asians and, just like BGI Group, Fulgent has been rushing to expand their COVID testing capacity – even to the point of expanding into temporary installations in their parking lots. Our regular readers know that Fulgent Genetics won the contract for in-school COVID testing in NYC Schools, and that a loop hole in Fulgent’s contract could have allowed them to keep specimens they received from testing. TEACHERS FOR CHOICE sued the NYC DOE in a case called KANE vs. NYC DOE and was able to close that loophole.

China is not the only entity we should fear attempting to collect and track Americans biometrics such as DNA. Homeland Security has announced its Homeland Advanced Recognition Technology (HART) database, which will include multiple forms of biometrics including face recognition, DNA, data from questionable sources, and highly personal data on innocent people.

While the 60 Minutes investigation is not about Fulgent Genetics in anyway, and does not implicate or suggest anything at all about Fulgent, we strongly suggest everyone tune in to 60 Minutes this Sunday, January 31, 2021.

From CBS NEWS:

60 Minutes has learned Chinese company BGI Group, the largest biotech firm in the world, offered to build COVID labs in at least six states, and U.S. intelligence officials issued warnings not to share health data with BGI. See the story, Sunday on CBS.
